- This kit doesn’t come with an extra topcoat sealer.
- If you want a well-defined grain, you can use the graining tool. Just apply a second coat once the first coat is dry, and then pull the graining tool through it while it is still wet. Use the same color or a different color depending on how defined you want the grain.
- Topcoat is optional for some projects. Topcoat is required on countertops, tabletops, flooring, porches, and decking. Topcoat is optional on fireplaces, cabinets, buffets, dressers, and molding.
- Step-By-Step:
- Clean It - Remember to prep the surface (never use TSP products)
- Prime It - Brush on 2 coats with the primer and make final strokes long in the direction you want the grain. (Give it 2 hours to completely dry or use a blow dryer to speed up the drying process)
- Grain It (Optional) If you want a smooth finish you can skip this step. Your brush strokes will make a subtle grain - Brush on a thin coat of stain in plank-size sections and pull the graining tool through each section while the coat is still wet
- Stain It - Brush on 0 to 3 coats of stain as desired. Make final strokes long in the direction you want the grain (Note: Do not wipe back the stain like other stains and each coat of stain will give you a deeper finish)
